The Mind

Filed in Friends, Health, Inspirational, Life by on September 27, 2016

the mind is where the biggest battles get played out. Mercia Tapping

I have two friends both of which are seniors. One is very wealthy, her brain is intact, she has a good social life, a loving family and she complains about everything. The other friend is in constant severe pain, has exceptionally poor health and few friends. She rarely if ever complains and is almost housebound.

I try to bring some joy into both these women’s lives each week, but I cannot help but contrast the difference in the way they perceive and experience the world. I think everything begins and ends with our minds. It is where the biggest battles get won or lost. And only you are in charge of your mind.

You May Feel Alone

you may feel alone in the woods of your grief but in time you will find joy again. Mercia Tapping

I think when we are actively grieving, it is one of the most lonely places to be. Most people around us really do not want to keep on hearing about it. But even in the depths of grief, still believe that there will be joy again in your life. At first, those moments of joy are like tiny points of light in the darkness, but they also point the way to more frequent joyful moments, and in time, a happy and peaceful life.

There are those who like me have lost one or more of those who they loved most dearly here on earth. There is no timetable to grief or any way to do it right. Just trust that God is still here and looking out for you.

reflect on where the hand of god itself in your life today and be grateful. Mercia Tapping

At some point every day I take some moments to myself and reflect back on the day.

When I do that, I can see even on tougher days, that there are many things for which I should be grateful, and trust that my path is being guided by God. Sometimes I do not fully understand the nature of divine intervention until more time has past. But I am learning to trust that it is always there.

Love Is In The Small Things

Filed in Cancer, Health, Inspirational, Life, Love by on September 21, 2016

love is in the small things. it does not trumpet or demand. rathr it isfound in thoughtful deeds. Mercia Tapping

After the death of my husband to brain cancer and my own battle with breast cancer, I reflected on the incredible levels of kindness that had been shown to me by others. At some point along this journey, I decided to live my life from a place of love for the rest of humanity.

My way of doing it is not very startling or earth shattering, but I hope it makes a difference nonetheless. A kind word to another, a driver to an elderly woman, a meal for the sick, these are some of the things I fit into my calendar.

But it is important to note that love is not found in grand sweeping gestures, or in the expenditures of money, but in small every day kindnesses shown to one another.
